WEEE & C10C

WHAT IS WEEE?

WEEE is the term applied to all electrical and electronic equipment (TVs, PCs, white goods and vending machines to name but a few) when it is to be disposed of at the end of its life.

The Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment Regulations 2006 aim to reduce the amount of WEEE being disposed of and require EEE producers to pay for its reuse, recycling and recovery.

These regulations exist for manufacturers, importers, re-branders and distributors of EEE, EEE producer compliance schemes, treatment facilities and exporters of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

Since July 2007, a system has been operating in the UK to take-back, reuse or treat and recycle used electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). This system is intended to reduce the amount of untreated waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) going to landfill and to ensure that what gets separately collected is dealt with properly.

COLLECTION AND REUSE OF WEEE

If an item of EEE has been discarded by the holder into any waste collection system it will become WEEE. There will also be circumstances where EEE is returned to a retailer and can be regarded as EEE until its status is known when it has been examined and tested.

Just because an item of equipment has been discarded and been classified as waste does not mean that it must be destroyed or that it cannot be repaired or refurbished and put back into use. However, for as long as an item is waste, waste management controls will apply.

WHAT IS C10C?

The vending industry including UKV Solutions Ltd's 'UK Vending', the UK's longest serving vending company, has prepared for WEEE by forming the "not for profit" company, c10c. All major vending machine Producers/Importers have come together under c10c to act together to discharge WEEE obligations in the most economic way. By "working as one ", vending machine producers will ensure the best possible solution for the Vending Industry as a whole.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF C10C?

It offers a "hassle free" cost effective national solution to complex legislation

Producers/Importers/Operators can concentrate on their business instead of WEEE issues

c10c is non profit making and as such its costs will reflect only those costs necessary to set up and run the business.

c10c will ensure that our Industry has the right environmental credentials at minimum cost
