We are seeking a JAVA ARCHITECT who will be embedded within the TV everywhere application team and will serve as a technical intermediary between all facets of the organization. This Architect will weigh best practices against real world delivery requirements by helping to define the overall tone of the technical solution of a project.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



* Provide technical documentation and direction for new functionality and products

* Review documentation from product teams and other groups for completeness, accuracy, and readiness for Engineering

* Document existing products, systems, and infrastructure

* Provide guidance, drive for best practices, and promote coding standards and standardization with developers and managers

* Participate in core architecture meetings and help guide the overall architectural goals of the organization

* Provide technical consultation and expertise to Engineering colleagues, Product Managers, Project Managers and other Synacor staff members

* Participate in technical calls with our clients to gather required information for projects, communicate solutions and to provide technical consultation during the call



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:



* 10+ years development experience in software development or web design

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required

* Expert knowledge of Java and enterprise java design

* Knowledge of various programming languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, PHP, Perl, etc.)

* Experience with Object Oriented Programming

* Experience with a variety of frameworks and design patterns

* Experience with multi threaded applications

* Working knowledge of SQL database and knowledge of database design

* Comprehensive and hands-on understanding of the software development lifecycle

* Outstanding communication and teamwork skills including the ability to collaborate with clients, managers, peers, and non-technical personnel

* Ability to actively listen, accept constructive criticism, and show empathy towards end users and other project stakeholders

* Ability to solve complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions

* Ability to understand product development methodologies and make judgments about its impact on engineering activities

* Ability to analyze architecture of development environments to understand capacity and performance aspects
